A Christmas Carol
The Wayne County Performing Arts Council (WaCPAC) will perform a Reader’s Theatre version of the Christmas classic, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 12, at 4 and 8 p.m. The performances will be in the Chalet at Freedlander Park located at 400 Hillside Dr., off of Burbank Rd. in Wooster.
The Reader’s Theatre is reminiscent of radio shows of the past. Actors read from the script while portraying various characters and making some minor costume changes. And of course, there are sound effects.
Bringing this classic to life are Bob Schang as Ebneezer Scrooge, Joe Alto as Scrooge’s nephew and others, Tim Breiner as Bob Crachit and other characters, Charlotte Gladulich as the narrator, Maggie Leatherman as Mrs. Crachit and others, Scott Perkins as Tiny Tim and others, Jessica Matthews as Belle and others, Jack Meinke as Jacob Marley and others, John Myers as Old Joe and others, Laurie Schang as the Ghost of Christmas Past and others, and Grace Turner as Scrooge’s sister and others. Leslie Baus is the director, Jim Gladulich is the sound director and Ron Leatherman is in charge of lighting.
Following both evening performances, there will be a free wassail gathering where audience members are invited to share in cookies and traditional wassail (heated punch) and to sing some carols with the cast.
The performance is sponsored by Long, Cook and Samsa and The Commercial & Saving Bank. Tickets are $8, and are on sale now at all Wayne County Buehler’s stores and at Wayne Center for the Arts.
To add to the Christmas spirit, there will also be a Victorian Tea on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Chalet. Tea expert Wendy Fegley will discuss the various teas that will be served, and Scrooge, Tiny Tim and Bob Crachit will stop by for tea so be sure to bring your cameras to get your picture taken with these literary lads. Donations for the tea are being provided by Muddy Waters, Panera Bread, Buehler’s and Tulipan Bakery. Decorations are being provided by Friendtique, CR Blooms Floral and Wayne Center for the Arts. Those attending are invited to dress up for the occasion. This event is suited for ages six to adult.
Tickets for the tea only are $6. There is a special rate of $12 for a ticket to the tea and the matinee performance at 4 p.m.
This event is in partnership with Wooster Department of Parks and Recreation and Wayne Center for the Arts. For more information, call Leslie Baus at 330-466-6360.
