Autumn in Amish Country has arrived, and with it comes the perfect time to explore the area’s beauty and experience some of its most popular destinations.

Like an artist’s canvas of bright vibrant colors, the fall foliage is at its peak with a variety of hues ranging from warm reds to bright yellows.

Celebrate the fall season by taking a drive through the countryside and witness the beauty of nature. The following businesses are celebrating autumn and offer a great start to your voyage. Ohio’s Amish Country magazine recommends visiting the following businesses and soaking up the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of autumn in Amish Country.

Between Dover and Sugarcreek, the “True Marriage of Wine & Cheese” found a home at Broad Run Cheesehouse. A bedrock of the cheesemaking industry, now offers the fruits of Amish Country with daily wine tasting. Making Swiss cheese since 1933 and mastering the craft of winemaking six years ago, the Swiss chalet-style building offers the tastes that made Ohio Amish Country popular, not to mention an exquisite curtain and lace shop.

This family-owned chocolate lovers paradise offers an extensive arrays of choices, including milk chocolate, dark chocolate, sugar free chocolate and other sweet treats. The Victorian house chocolate factory, complete with a viewing gallery, has been satisfying everyone’s sweet tooth since 1987. Taking corporate orders, offering holiday shipping and a new location on Main Street in Berlin, Coblentz Chocolates are so sweet any time of the year.

Dutch Craft Furniture works with selected craftsmen to offer a large selection of premium Amish handcrafted furniture, ranging from traditional to contemporary styles for the office and home. At the Berlin shop, craftsmen specialize in creative designs while offering many varieties of stains and wood from quarter-sawn white oak to maple to elm. Customers are urged to share their designs for furniture that will be treasured for future generations.

The 5,600 square foot store between Berlin and Walnut Creek lets customers feel the heat from the displays. Erb’s Stove Center features gas fireplaces and appliances, many which qualify for the U.S. Federal Tax Credit; wood, corn and pellet stoves; gas grills; Coleman products, lawn furniture, outdoor stone fireplaces and cornhole games. Custom, locally built mantels in cherry, oak or birch for fireplaces are available as well.

Over 15 years and millions of customers later, this restored 120-year-old, four-story building, Everything Rubbermaid, offers the largest assortment of Rubbermaid products anywhere in the world. The product line has grown to provide something for everyone. Whether looking for one item or many, the selection includes items from Irwin Tools, Sharpie, Shurline, Rubbermaid Commercial and, of course, the full line of Rubbermaid Home Products and Food Storage.

The tastes of autumn are served up at the Farmstead Restaurant, located within walking distance of the Berlin shops. With menu items such broasted or oven roasted chicken, Amish baked goods, pie and cinnamon rolls, the choices are as big as your appetite. Diners can also choose the hot buffet, complete with salad and dessert bar. The eatery is open on Sundays and also has private banquet facilities.

Dedicated to showcasing local artisan food and wines, Heini’s Gourmet Market has over 300 Ohio specialty foods and wines from over 35 Ohio wineries that stock the shelves of the Buckeye Wine Gallery where guests can enjoy a glass or bottle. Autumn will be in full swing, October 10 during Old Shanesville Oktoberfest. Entertainment all day, children’s games and German food and cooking demos will bring the old country alive.

Autumn signals the return of Family Fun Nights to Hershberger’s Farm & Bakery where you can pick your own pumpkin. It’s a great place for the whole family, with horse-drawn buggy and pony rides and a farm animal petting area. Offering a full line of made-from-scratch baked goods, including 26 varieties of pie, there’s something for everyone, not to mention fresh flowers and produce (in season).
