Huge selection and top quality make Amish Oak Furniture the place for value

By Shelly Webb

Twenty-six-years ago Chris Tuttle noticed something that had a huge impact on his future. The year was 1982 and Tuttle noticed that it was almost impossible at that time to find solid oak furniture to purchase. There were plenty of unfinished furniture stores popping up in urban areas and selling pine furniture, but there was no market at all offering anything in solid oak.

My thought at that time was to combine well-known Amish craftsmanship and solid oak (or cherry, maple, etc.) furniture and to offer it to the retail public, Tuttle explained. This idea proved to be a win-win situation for both the craftsman and myself. I provided the public retail outlet for the furniture and they built it. It was from this basic idea that Amish Oak Furniture Company was born.

For the past 26 years, Amish Oak Furniture Company has provided a retail outlet in Loudonville. Four years ago a second store opened in the town of Pataskala (Columbus area).

Amish Oak Furniture Company continues to offer Amish-made furniture in all kinds of woods, Tuttle said. Everything in our stores is made by the Amish, with the exception of some upholstered pieces, which are made by Smith Brother’s out of Indiana or Ort Furniture here in Ohio. Both those companies offer excellent quality and workmanship.

According to Tuttle, Amish Oak Furniture Company is unique because they offer a 20,000-square-foot warehouse filled with inventory. This enables customers to enjoy a huge selection with many different categories, styles and pieces of furniture to choose from. The huge inventory also allows customers to make immediate purchases, unlike many other furniture businesses where it may be necessary to wait several weeks for an order to be shipped in.

We also offer custom ordering, Tuttle added. Our customers may come in, look at a bedroom suite, for example, and want to make some minor changes to the style or overall look of the suite. Since our furniture is not mass-produced, these changes can be communicated and completed. We also have situations where a customer may come in and have a very specific idea or design in mind. In that case, we can have our craftsmen build to the design and specifications of the customer, allowing them to create their own selection.

In Tuttle’s opinion, one thing that makes oak so popular is the beauty of the grain, along with the durability and cost.

Oak is what I like to describe as the workhorse of wood species, he shared. It has a very pronounced grain and is also very reasonably priced considering how durable and long-lasting it is. People can raise their families at oak tables. It holds up well and is a tough and reliable wood. We also sell a lot of cherry and maple, too, but the percentage of oak that we sell is still the majority.

Amish Oak Furniture Company offers dining room furniture, bedroom suites, table and chair sets for children, bookcases, office furniture, hutches, living room sets, sofas, recliners and many other great home furnishing pieces.

They also have wonderful Christmas ideas like cedar chests, rockers, glider rockers, jewelry armoires and every other kind of furniture piece you can think of.

We also offer two other very important things to assure that our customers are getting real value with their purchases, Tuttle pointed out. A low price guarantee is included, along with a lifetime warranty on all indoor wood furniture. If a customer finds a lower price on the same or very similar item, it is gladly matched. With the lifetime warranty, if there is ever a problem resulting from a defect in materials or workmanship, Amish Oak will repair or replace the item at no charge. This is the same lifetime warranty we’ve offered since we opened in 1982 - that’s how confident we are in the quality of the handcrafted furniture we offer.

While most furniture establishments are not fond of selling items off their showroom floor, Amish Oak Furniture Company believes customer satisfaction is the number one priority and is always willing to sell from the showroom floor.

We can’t see telling a customer that they’re not allowed to purchase the item they fall in love with on the showroom floor, Tuttle said. We are here to meet the needs of our customers and that’s always our number one goal.

The Amish Oak Furniture Company also offers interior design and decorating services though their York Interiors design service, at both the Loudonville and Pataskala stores. Their decorators can help each customer select the one item they are looking for, or help with decorating an entire home, including paint colors, curtain fabric, etc. A wide variety of furniture styles including contemporary, transitional, traditional, mission and shaker fill the showroom. New furniture items are added frequently at Amish Oak Furniture so there’s always something fresh each time you visit.

For anyone in the market for any type of furniture at all, make sure to visit Amish Oak Furniture Company first. Chances are you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for, and if not, they’ll build it for you.
