Four Corners Furniture is a place to come back to By Joanne Lehman
If you’re looking for simplicity, you’ll find it at Four Corners Furniture. When it comes to handcrafted, everything happens here where the Miller family has lived for six generations. Just off the beaten path, (you’ll see their signs) follow a winding country road for about a mile and arrive at the farmstead with a white-painted board fence, well-kept gardens, grape arbors and a raspberry patch. It’s a place you’ll want to come back to once you discover it. Here, bedroom sets are manufactured and finished. Staff people in the showroom guide you through the confusing process of deciding on a look that’s right for you and your home, said sales manager Marcus Miller. “We try to make your experience of buying custom-made furniture simple,” said Marcus. By guiding prospective customers through the process of choosing a style, wood, finish and hardware, the Millers simplify what can become a confusing process when visitors to the area face the complexities of custom-built decision-making. “We want you to get what you want, not what we want you to have,” Marcus added. The showroom at Four Corners isn’t fancy but it’s full of choices in style and finishes. You won’t find decorations and accessories here, instead, fine polished woods shine in the natural light. There’s little to detract from the beauty of quality- unless you count the black thoroughbred running in the pasture just beyond the sweet corn patch. Four Corners offers 17 different pieces and eight handcrafted styles. They have more than 40 bed styles to choose from. They build furniture from oak, quarter sawn white oak, cherry, rustic cherry, hickory, maple and brown maple woods. They make Shaker, Mission, and raised panel styles, with many designs of chests, dressers and other pieces. A neighboring shop, just over the hill, manufactures the beautiful dining tables, and the finishes are applied at Four Corners to ensure a perfect match. Owner, Myron Miller, began his career in woodworking in 1998 as a retailer. A year later, he began manufacturing bedroom furniture on his grandfather’s farm at Four Corners. The name Four Corners is a place name. It seems mysterious until you learn that this is the place four townships come together: Berlin, Paint, Walnut Creek and Salt Creek. Myron chose to build his shop in this tranquil setting. Family members and a neighbor tend to the gardens and fields. Myron employs 14 people in his business. Many are related to him but he’s quick to point out that he wants every customer to be treated as if they’re one of the family. Four Corners is now in their 10th year of business. During that time, Myron has become convinced that it’s the trust, craftsmanship, and quality of the furniture made in Amish Country that keeps people coming here to look for furniture. “I feel that if you keep your priorities right and understand that your blessings come from God, that’s the main thing,” said Myron. “It’s not what Myron Miller has done. It’s what my employees do, putting in that extra care and effort,” he said. When you take a look around at Four Corners Furniture you’ll understand what it means to be part of this family. As they’re so fond of saying here- “It’s a place to come back to.”
