Swiss Valley Furniture prides itself on building high-quality furniture
By Tricia Flickinger
Swiss Valley Furniture in Sugarcreek has always been proud of the quality and craftsmanship of its furniture, handcrafted by local Amish builders. Now, the locally owned and family operated business can take pride in something more; the company now makes most all its furniture on site and the furniture is built to last a lifetime.
“We now build most of our furniture ourselves in our own shop,” said co-owner Kendrick Mullet. “The advantage of having our own shop is, the customer can walk in and if they want a custom item, instead of being the middle man, we can draw it up and build it ourselves. It’s really been working well for us.”
Mullet co-owns Swiss Valley Furniture with his father, Dennis, and brother, Keshawn. The two brothers grew up building custom kitchens with their father and grandfather. Dennis has spent more than 30 years designing and building custom kitchens, so he has the expertise and experience to help customers create any custom item they may want.
“Our biggest advantage of building our own furniture comes when our customers want something custom-made. The salesperson who helps design the item will often be the one who builds the item as well,” Mullet said.
Since the business opened in 1995, Swiss Valley has had many satisfied customers and specializes in the perfect hardwood furniture piece for every room of the home. It has always been a company goal to eventually build its own furniture on site and now that the goal has been reached, Mullet is happy about that and the store itself has been doing really well with the transition.
“In 2004, I left my grandpa’s cabinet shop, and began building occasional tables and bedroom sets in my garage, with the goal of eventually building all of our own furniture,” Mullet said. “In 2009, we achieved part of this goal by expanding to a much larger manufacturing facility, where we now build most of our own furniture. We still supplement our showroom with other locally made items, but developing our own line sets us apart and gives our customers unique handmade items they can’t find anywhere else.”
With a showroom that encompasses more than 24,000-square-feet, one of the largest in the area, customers are able to see the different styles of furniture and different woods the store offers. A wide array of beautiful dining room and kitchen furniture is available, as well as bedroom suites and office furniture, including television stands and computer desks.
In line for a new bed? Swiss Valley has the perfect one for you and plenty of varieties to choose from, too. With styles ranging from Lexington, Chateau, Brooklyn beds and sleigh beds to Cambrai, Richmond Morning beds, Rolling Ridge beds and Mission, Swiss Valley Furniture guarantees great customer service and wants to make each guest feel comfortable at the store and when they take the product home. A variety of children’s furniture and cribs will meet the needs of anyone with a child in their life.
Furniture from Swiss Valley comes in a variety of different hardwoods, including oak, maple, cherry, one-fourth sawn oak, elm and walnut.
Top quality furniture is what Swiss Valley Furniture is known for and now customers can take home an even better product, a piece of furniture made on site. The Mullet family has been selling top quality furniture for more than three generations, so they invite you to “bring in your pictures and drawings and we can turn your dream into reality,” guaranteeing you an heirloom for generations to come.
