The Inn at Walnut Creek offers comfort and breathtaking views

By Kyle Valentini

Chris and Chrystal Soni purchased The Inn at Walnut Creek in 2009 when they decided to make Walnut Creek their home. Frequent trips to the region made it clear Walnut Creek was the place they wanted to make their home and raise their family.

“My wife introduced me to Amish Country when we were still college students in Columbus,” said Chris Soni. “We enjoyed visiting because of the wonderful restaurants and shopping. After our kids were born we realized we did not want to raise them in the city. Walnut Creek had always been a favorite place for us.”

At The Inn at Walnut Creek all the charms of the quaint village are at your doorstep. Rolling hills and Amish farmland surround the inn, situated within walking distance to restaurants, craft shops, quilt shops, cheese factories and auction houses. The central location allows guests to mingle with local residents and other tourists.

“We have made a lot of updates to the inn since we bought it,” said Soni. “We continue to update the rooms and have created an improved outdoor area for our guests to enjoy the views. The deck and patio face pasture where horses graze. It’s so quiet and peaceful here. The views are beautiful and with each changing season guests can enjoy the valley. In the spring and summer we have cornhole boards for our guests to enjoy.”

The inn boasts 21 rooms, four of which are suites with extra amenities to accommodate larger families or extended stays. A ground floor suite features two double beds, a coffeemaker, microwave and refrigerator. Upstairs there are two suites, one with two queen beds, coffeemaker, microwave and refrigerator. The second upstairs suite, despite its smaller size, features a queen-size bed and a gorgeous view of the surrounding farms. The honeymoon suite is situated on the ground floor. It features a queen-size bed, a romantic heart-shaped Jacuzzi plus a brand new bathroom. This suite is perfect for newlyweds or any couple looking for a rural getaway.

All the rooms at the inn are furnished in locally crafted Shaker style furniture that reflects a sense of order and neatness. Clean lines and lack of ornamentation keep the rooms fresh and open for guest’s enjoyment. “We added small refrigerators to all the rooms. Guests like to purchase perishable items when they shop in the local stores and this allows them to keep things fresh during their stay,” said Soni. Rooms also include heat and air controls, free wireless Internet and cable TV.

Amish made mattresses and quilts add to the comfort of the inn.

An expanded continental breakfast is served each morning in the community room where guests can enjoy bagels, pastries, coffee, juice and milk before a walk through the village or a short drive to surrounding attractions in nearby Berlin, Charm, Winesburg, Millersburg and Sugarcreek.

The Inn at Walnut Creek has a reputation for being a favorite of tourists. “As much as 70 percent of our guests are repeat customers,” said Soni. “We have gotten to know them and even send cards and gift baskets full of items found in Walnut Creek to them on anniversaries and birthdays. Guests return because they enjoy the region and know our staff will give them the service they deserve and expect.”

The moment you walk in the lobby at The Inn at Walnut Creek you are greeted with a smile and a knowledgeable staff member will assist you with your accommodations and in finding local attractions and events offered in and around the village. “Many of our employees have been here for years,” said Soni. “They know the guests and look forward to when they return. The staff and I look forward to new guests to discover the inn and all that Walnut Creek has to offer.”

The Inn at Walnut Creek is located at 4869 Olde Pump St. in downtown Walnut Creek. Reservations can be made by calling the inn at 330-893-3599 or 800-262-7181.
