Fun is the goal at Wood's Tall Timber Lake Resort
By Joanne Lehman
Wood's Tall Timber Lake Resort is the perfect place to enjoy a warm weather retreat. Whether you're traveling and need a place to park your tent, or you're a seasoned resident, you'll love this pristine resort in Tuscarawas County with its many attractions.
At the center of it all is a seven-acre spring fed lake with an all-sand bottom and grassy beach area. A fan shaped dock, with two, one-meter diving boards, a big "S" tube slide, and a 20-foot floating dock with a slide and trampoline, keep things lively in the lake.
A floating trampoline for kids and a small slide for tots make this a fun resort for family members of all ages. The beach is open for swimming, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting. Seasonal swim passes are available and can be used from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A fishing dock and bait shop are located at the opposite end of the lake from the designated swimming area. Boat rentals are available and include paddleboats, canoes and electric boats.
Originally built in the 1960s, the lake and campground were purchased by Larry and Lisa Wood of Dover in May of 2004. The concession stand is the only building original to the property. Four years after purchasing the property, Wood's Tall Timber Lake Resort has many campsite options. Camping is available daily, weekly, monthly, or seasonally and a calendar of events is posted monthly that lists special activities and events.
There are various types of camping available at this campground, so one of them is sure to suit your needs. The resort offers primitive tent sites, 30 Amp and 50 Amp electric campsites, mini cottages with bunks, and two-bedroom cottages with all the amenities of home - kitchen with appliances, living room, full bathroom and sleeping room for up to eight guests.
Resort guests have access to the clubhouse and game room, Woody's Grille concession stand, bait shop, shower house, and coin Laundromat. Children will enjoy the playground in the campground as well. Guests can also enjoy Woodpecker Par 3 Golf Course, Putt Putt and Target Range.
The resort has four pavilions available for rent, making it an ideal place for picnic groups of various sizes. The largest has 13 picnic tables and four grills, and seats 80-85 people. The smallest shelter accommodates about 45 persons.
The Lakehouse Lodge is the newest addition to Wood's Tall Timber Lake Resort. The lodge offers a rustic atmosphere for any occasion, such as family reunions, business meetings, benefits, conferences, school reunions, banquets, and parties of all kinds. Inside the lodge, a massive double-sided fieldstone fireplace is located in the center of the facility. A state-of-the-art sound system for both indoors and outdoors, a large flat-screen television with DVD player, dance floor, and space for a DJ makes this the ideal reception and conference site.
When used as a banquet hall, the Lakehouse Lodge can comfortably seat 150 to 175 people indoors, and has outdoor seating for approximately 100 on the covered deck - tables and chairs are included in the rental price. Two kitchenettes with warmers, sinks, and preparation tables are available for catering services, and a large outdoor propane grill can be rented for $75. An antique refurbished bar is also located in the lodge. The owners offer a list of suggested catering businesses. Caterers, event set-up, decorating, and clean-up are left up to the host's discretion. Packages and options can be customized for the client - for instance, hosts of an event at the Lakehouse Lodge may want to offer guests access to various activities, such as swimming, boating and golf on the resort grounds. A deposit of exactly 50 percent of the rental price is required upon making reservations at Lakehouse Lodge.
