The Holmes County Historical Society (HCHS) is royally flushed with excitement over its newest fundraiser, a second edition of Holmes County History Real Souvenir playing cards, which feature historical people, businesses, organizations and attractions from throughout Holmes County.
The casino quality deck will feature a total of 55 area photographs, with each card including fun facts, reminiscences of the past and a color or black-and-white photo of Holmes County's past.
"This is a chance to become a real part of Holmes County history," said HCHS board member Kathleen Harris. "We've got such an interesting and varied history here, and this is a pretty unique way to showcase some of that rich culture and historical past which has helped make our county what it is today."
The inaugural set of 1,000 decks of playing cards were printed in June of 2007. By Christmas, the entire stock was gone.
The popularity of the deck prompted the HCHS to create a 2.0 version, and they are currently out and about trying to build another deck of 52 cards, plus two jokers and three wild cards.
Harris expects that this version will also be quite popular, and won't last long on the shelves.
"There are a lot of people who have not seen the first deck, and many people in our county have never seen most of the photos in the deck," said Harris.
Sponsorship on the cards is open to any family or business which wishes to honor someone or a business. The only prerequisite is that it must have historical reference.
