Local Roots Wooster Events
Looking for ways to celebrate the holidays in a more local fashion? The Wooster Local Foods Cooperative Inc., doing business as Local Roots Market and Café, will share ideas at a pair of pre-Thanksgiving events.
On Friday, Nov. 20, from 7-9:30 p.m., Local Roots will join in the festivities of Window Wonderland with a community open house. Coffee, cider, and home-baked goods will be available for those who are out to enjoy the first delights of the season. Members of the steering committee and other volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about Local Roots and to welcome new members.
On Saturday, Nov. 21, during the regular market hours, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Local Roots will host the first-ever Holiday Market. Producer members will have produce and baked goods for sale, while other members and vendors will display and sell local artwork and handcrafted gift items. Local musicians will contribute to the holiday atmosphere.
Local Roots also welcomes a special guest to the event: Ohio writer and farmer Gene Logsdon. He, along with his wife, Carol, works a small-scale experimental farm in Wyandot County, and he has written numerous books and magazine articles on farm-related issues. Eight of his books, including All Flesh Is Grass, The Last of the Husbandmen, and Small-Scale Grain Raising, will be available for purchase and for signing.
Also on Nov. 21, at 7 p.m., Local Roots will screen PolyCultures at the Local Roots Market building, with a discussion with the filmmakers following the documentary.
As a year-round farmers market located in downtown Wooster, Local Roots will provide a central hub for area producers to sell fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, and other Ohio-grown agricultural products. During the month of November, the market will be open only on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., for the indoor farmers market.
The cooperative is open for membership and invites interested producers and consumers to visit the Web site for details on the benefits of Local Roots membership.
