This area
is a golfer’s paradise and Black Diamond is a jewel among the
riches.
Imagine…a
perfect sunny day, not too warm, not too cool, with that sweet smell of
wildflowers drifting faintly on the soft breeze. Now imagine having
this perfect sunny day free and open to do what you love most… ‘play
golf.’
Get ready to tee off because this summer
promises many perfect days for golf and when those days come along you
can only hope you’re in close proximity of 7500 Township Road 103 in
Millersburg, Ohio, because Black Diamond Golf Course offers one of the
most unforgettable golf experiences on one of the most popular and
strategically designed courses in the state.
Not
only is Black Diamond Golf Course secluded in the heart of Amish
Country, but it’s also nestled in the rolling landscape of the most
gorgeous and breathtaking scenery you’ll ever see. The course includes
22 acres of water, covers more than 200 acres of the magnificent Amish
countryside, and offers 18 holes of spectacular golf, a driving range
and a practice putting green.
According to Black
Diamond Manager Cathy Hull, the facility is beautifully maintained and
offers a very challenging course. It provides golfers a great
experience that’s fun and enhancing to their game. The course also has
some very ‘unique’ attributes and characteristics that you won’t find
at any other course in Ohio.
“Black Diamond is a
very challenging course due to the hills and slopes it was built into,”
Hull explained. “Each green averages 7,000 square feet. We also have
the only Par 6 (720) yards in Ohio. Black Diamond is situated on
rolling, wooded terrain with many water holes and acres of fescue and
bent grass. The elevation at Black Diamond is difficult to match at any
other course in Ohio. If a couple comes to the course and one of them
does not golf, we let them ride in the cart free of charge. Many women
appreciate this as their spouse can golf and they can enjoy the
beautiful scenery.”
Black Diamond opened in 2000 and
Hull noted that getting to the course is not only convenient but it is
also centrally located for many of their
guests.
“Our guests meet here from Cleveland,
Columbus, and many other cities,” she said. “We’ve also recently had
numerous golfers from Canada as well.”
Whether
you’re from Canada, Ohio or any other country or state, nothing beats a
long weekend of golf and Black Diamond offers a unique lodging option
for those wishing to stay over. However, if you plan to stay, you must
book well in advance.
“We do have available a
beautiful farmhouse which sleeps 14 people,” Hull added. “It is a fully
furnished three bedroom, one bath farmhouse with a fully stocked
kitchen. There is also a gas grill located on the beautiful wraparound
porch. The guests have fishing privileges as well as a lighted putting
green for night practice. The rent depends upon how many people stay.
Guests pay one green fee and play all day. Presently the farmhouse is
booked for every weekend this year but we do have a waiting list. Most
guests make reservations for next year before they check
out.”
The farmhouse rental is so popular and always
in such demand that Hull said a new rental unit will be available in
the future, giving people another lodging
opportunity.
“We are also in the process of
remodeling a new rental unit that will sleep 16 people,” she said. “It
will have a fully equipped kitchen and three bathrooms. There will be a
very large deck complete with gas grill. Both houses include linens, so
all our guests need to bring are clothes, food, and, of course, their
clubs.”
In addition to the lodging options, Black
Diamond has an on-site clubhouse serving fresh, cold and hot
sandwiches, snacks and beverages throughout the day. The clubhouse
stocks a wide variety of golf attire, as well as all golf
necessities.
Although Black Diamond is a public
course, they do offer memberships and also hold a weekly league. Black
Diamond has recently been featured in The Cleveland Plain Dealer and
Ohio’s Golf magazine. They are rated one of the Top 100 courses in Ohio
by Golf Styles magazine.
If you haven’t played at
Black Diamond then you really don’t know what you’ve been missing. So
grab your irons, leave the phone behind and escape to paradise for a
day. You’ll be glad you did!
