GEARING UP: Kidron Sports Center has two locations for all your outdoor needs
By Shelly Webb
Hunting,
camping and outdoor events top the list of favorite leisure time
activities for many individuals and families. There’s just something
about nature and outdoor sports that brings life into perspective, and
for Kidron Sports Center owner Wayne Miller and his family, offering
folks the right supplies and gear to enjoy that perspective is what
they do best.
“Both our store locations, the one in Apple Creek
(Kidron) and the one in Charm, have a great friendly, family
atmosphere,” Miller said. “We really work hard at going above and
beyond for our customers and we believe strongly in the importance of
customer service. Our goal is to make our customers happy and that’s
why we work so hard.”
Miller oversees both stores, along with
his wife, Mary, daughter, Marcy and son-in-law, John Henry Miller. He
started the business in 1995 after encountering some health problems
and being advised by his physician to discontinue his career in the
roofing industry because that type of labor was not conducive to his
physical well-being.
Today, Miller said, the decision to start the business was one of the best he ever made.
“I
love my work,” he shared. “Not everyone can say that about their job
and I feel very blessed and happy that I get to do something I love
every single day.”
As Miller mentioned, Kidron Sports Center is
available at two locations to better serve the area. One store is
situated at 4126 S. Kohler Road in Apple Creek, near Kidron, and the
other is located about 18-20 miles away at 4432 CR 70 in Charm. The
hours at the Apple Creek location are Monday and Thursday, from 8:30
a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 6
p.m.; and Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The store in Charm
operates as follows: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 6
p.m.;Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 7
p.m.; and Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Both stores stock
the latest in all types of hunting gear and supplies and carry quality
brands like Big Game and Horton. Miller said he is able to offer the
best prices on his inventory because of good relationships and dealing
directly with various companies.
“We pride ourselves on offering
the most competitive prices and best quality,” he said. “We deal
directly with most of our companies and have a great relationship with
Big Game and Horton in particular. The Horton Cross Bow is really
popular right now as well as the Big Game Tree Stands and we stock
several styles of these products. We also have Woody Max Muck Boots, and
scent blocking clothing. The charcoal lining is unique and doesn’t
allow the odors and scents to get out.”
Kidron Sports Center
will run monthly specials during the hunting season and is gearing up
for your outdoor needs. They’ve even added several new camping items
and Miller said they will continue to increase their camping gear
supplies over the next few years.
“Our goal is to constantly be
growing,” he said. “We want to offer our customers the very best
inventory and the very best prices possible. In our business, you
either grow or you lose out and we enjoy growing and making our
customers happy.”
Miller is also excited about the upcoming
Northeast Ohio Sportsman Show, planned for Jan. 25 and 26, 2008. He
said it will be similar to the local show held last year, but will be
held at a new venue and will be much larger.
“We tried really
hard to find a facility or building large enough to handle the show
locally” he said, “but we just couldn’t work anything out. We are
having the show the last weekend in January 2008, on the 25th and 26th,
at the P. Graham Dunn building on Route 30 (the four lane), just a few
minutes from Dalton, Ohio.We hope to have a huge turnout, with 200 plus
vendors, and all the hunting or sporting gear you can imagine on
display, everything from guns, rifles, muzzleloaders, to ATV’s,
archery, you name it, we’ll have it! We’ll also offer seminars and
workshops, and Ohio Big Bucks will be on hand to score deer. We’re going
to have some TV personalities and celebrities there as well. This is
going to be the ultimate sportsman show and we’re already looking
forward to it and gearing up for it. The building is 120,000 square
feet and we expect the place to be packed with hunters from all over.”
Whether
you’re an avid hunter hitting it hard every day, or you just enjoy the
outdoors a few hours on the weekend, Kidron Sports Center at Apple
Creek and Charm has exactly what you need, at the best price, and with
the friendliest service you’ll find.
