The Lamplight Inn B&B

Singing Innkeeper serenades breakfast guests at charming bed & breakfast in the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country

Breakfast serenades are not the typical fare at your average bed and breakfast. But for guests at the Lamplight Inn B&B in Berlin, not only are they serenaded by their host, Larry Wilgus, ‘The Singing Innkeeper,’ as he plays at the grand piano, but they are treated to a sumptuous country breakfast prepared by their hostess, Helen Wilgus, which features entrees such as stuffed French toast, baked German apple pancakes with vanilla cream sauce, fresh fruit cobblers, country ham and sausage and other delights.

Larry and Helen became innkeepers after 24 years as professional entertainers. Married 33 years, the couple now spend their days making the visitors staying in their beautiful country B&B comfortable in one of the inn’s seven gorgeously decorated guest rooms.  The Lamplight Inn B&B is perfectly located on a scenic hilltop in the very heart of Amish Country, just two tenths of a mile from downtown Berlin; a mecca for those seeking handcrafted goods and specialty items. Everything imaginable can be found in the quaint shops of Berlin, from Amish made furniture and toys, to quilts and hot salsas.

“Our location is perfect because our guests can walk to the downtown area from here, and don’t have to worry about parking”, explains Larry.

The view is spectacular from any spot on the Inn’s 360-degree wrap-around porch or screened gazebo.

“Our guests can sit outside in our Victorian rocking chairs, and they love it,” says Larry. “We have Amish neighbors across the road…he brings his horses over to graze out there, and guests love seeing these horses play in the evening. The horses jump up and down, and whinny to each other, and run around…it’s like I’ve got it all choreographed.”

Charming gardens wind throughout the grounds, with a riotous explosion of thousands of tulips each spring.

The 6,500 square foot B&B in is decorated in a beautiful Victorian country style.  The lower floor features a living room and full size fireplace as well as the spacious dining room with its 15-foot high ceilings and open staircase. Several guest rooms and the Hillside Suite also occupy the first floor, with additional guest rooms on the second level. The four deluxe rooms offer additional luxury with relaxing Jacuzzis and inviting fireplaces.

During the Christmas season, the B&B is lavishly decorated, with each room graced by its own miniature tree. Two large trees adorn the living and dining areas, providing a true sense of an old-fashioned Christmas. Throughout the year, guests can select special packages or arrange for wine or sparkling grape juice, long-stemmed roses, chocolates or other expressions of affection to be waiting upon their arrival.
