Valley College Grange

Saturday, Nov. 14, will mark the date for the sixth annual corn show and supper to be held at the Valley College Grange on SR 226 in Wooster. The menu will include cornmeal pancakes, fried mush, sausage, hominy and applesauce. The pancakes and mush will be made from the old time grange recipes using roasted cornmeal, and the sausage will be the grange recipe enjoyed at the grange dining hall at the Wayne County Fair for many years.

To encourage a large turnout, the price of the meal is being lowered to $5 per person, with children age 5 and under free. Serving times are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. On exhibit in the upper level of the grange hall will be the corn entries, homemade canned goods for sale and other agricultural exhibits. There will also be free popcorn and cider at the show.

Last year’s event was attended by more than 230 people, who enjoyed the homecooked meal featuring corn recipes, and there were 18 exhibitors who received a combined total of over $500 in premiums, along with door prizes from sponsors. Anyone who would like to enter the show should drop off either 10 ears of corn or one quart of shelled corn per entry at the grange hall, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., on either Wednesday, Nov. 11, or Thursday, Nov. 12. There is no entry fee. Judging will take place on Friday, Nov. 13, with the show and supper open to the public on Nov. 14. Call 330-264-8910 for more information.
